The Origin Story · 10 Years In The Making
Four masters. Four different worlds. One ancient training system that changed everything. This is how the Rebellion was really built.
2015 — The Beginning
It started with a conversation between two friends. Nathan showed Edward a light sword. Edward's response was immediate: "I didn't even know that was a thing."
But he tried it. And something clicked. Not just the movement — the feeling. The focus. The way 15 minutes of Form 1 practice dropped his cortisol in ways his doctor couldn't explain. He hadn't started any new medication. He'd just been training.
Edward joined a European franchise. Within months he had built the largest light sword academy in the United States — 68 students in a single location. He won Entrepreneur of the Year. People's Choice Award. He was featured on America's Real Deal and Total Health Magazine. He was a keynote speaker at the Holistic Health & Wellness Expo in Los Angeles.
"By every external measure, I'd won. But I'd built an empire that required me to feed it constantly — more students, more content, more validation. I'd forgotten how to be a warrior."
2016 — The Betrayal
The European organization Edward had built under began revealing its true nature. What followed wasn't a business dispute — it was a pattern of behavior that Edward, Julliana, and others experienced firsthand: favoritism. Dishonesty. Manipulation. Sabotage. Racism. Overbearing control.
Americans who had traveled to Milan for international competition came home disillusioned. Some left the sport entirely. Some stayed — indoctrinated into a system that rewarded loyalty to the organization over loyalty to the art.
Edward made a decision that cost him everything he'd built: he walked away.
He didn't leave because it was easy. He left because staying would have required him to become someone he wasn't. And he knew that the system he'd built under was rotten at its foundation — and that the students who trusted him deserved something built on truth.
2016–2017 — The Rebuild
They didn't plan to meet. Edward was in Virginia Beach. Nathan was in Hawaii. Julliana was at Langley Air Force Base. Nick was on a Hollywood set between shoots.
What brought them together was the same thing — Form 1. Each had found it independently. Each had experienced the same result: a training system that worked without requiring a gym, expensive equipment, an audience, or 90-minute classes. Just 15 minutes, 8x8 feet of space, and focused movement.
When all four recognized what they each brought to the table, the decision was immediate. They weren't going to join another organization. They were going to build one — from scratch, on their own terms, answering to no one.

They formalized their accreditation through the American Jujitsu Institute and named their combat system after what Nathan had spent his career building: the 9-Form Combat System — a complete athletic classification framework with white-to-black sash progression built for international competition.
2017–2025 — The Build
They didn't follow a playbook. There wasn't one. They built every piece from scratch — the curriculum, the rank system, the tournament format, the instructor certification program, the business systems, the AI automation stack, the Build-A-Saber supply chain, the Airbnb Experience program, the Shadow Warrior digital platform.
One organic TikTok video of a Build-A-Saber unboxing generated $30,000 in 90 days. With zero ad spend.
Julliana became the first American certified to referee international light sword competition — officiating at the Annual International Lightsaber Championship Arena in Milan, Italy.
The City of Norfolk contracted Edward to provide classes through the Parks & Recreation program — zero facility overhead, paid to teach, city infrastructure backing the academy.
They trained their first Academy Commander — Keith Nye, Saber Core, Griswold Connecticut — entirely online. He opened his academy. It runs. It works. That proof of concept changed everything.
Today LSTA operates 10 certified academies across 7 states and Japan, including a certified location at Langley Air Force Base.
Now — The Olympic Vision
Every element built over the past decade maps directly to what the International Olympic Committee requires for sport recognition. The 9-Form Combat System is the rulebook. The white-to-black sash progression is the competitive classification. Saber Tag X-Treme is the standardized tournament format. The Academy Commander network is the grassroots club infrastructure.
The international governing body is being formalized now. Multi-continental presence — already underway with academies in the US and Japan — will meet the World Games requirement for recognition on three continents.
"We have a 2004 Olympics performer on our founding team. We have the first American international referee. We have the accreditation, the combat system, the tournament format, and the club network. The only thing between where we are and the World Games is time and territory. That's why we're opening academies now."
— Sifu Edward Armstrong, Co-Founder & CEO
The Academy Commanders being recruited today are not licensees. They are founding clubs in the international federation. The academies opened in the next 12 months are the grassroots infrastructure that carries this sport to the world stage.
That is what you are being invited to build.
